10th anniversary walk down memory lane

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of St John’s Village Lifestyle Estate and St John’s Village Real Estate, we invite you to reflect on the journey and the rich history that has shaped this Estate.

In 2010, developer Glenn Hesse acquired St John’s farm from William Hyslop, marking the beginning of a special relationship with the Hyslop family that continues today.

By 2013, we celebrated the completion of the Nick Grice-designed gatehouse, the construction of the estate's first roads, and the completion of our Sales Office.

The Estate gardens were established, the delightful Arboretum Allotment Garden was created and hundreds of trees were planted thanks to landscaper Gareth Garvin and his dedicated team.

The official launch of the estate took place in 2014, paving the way for land sales and construction of homes in The Orchards and The Arboretum began

In 2015, Shiraz vines from Glenn Hesse's Klein Welmoed Farm in Stellenbosch were planted. Seen here is Glenn, with landscaper Gareth Garvin on his left and, on Glenn’s right, his son James and Benny Booysen the award-winning Foothills winemaker.

And, our first residents started arriving;

Karin and Eric Simpson were our first purchasers in The Orchards.

Neville and Gay Fivaz were the first residents in St John's Village, moving in just days before Karin and Eric.

The late Liz Attwell-Brown, our beloved first freehold property owner in The Arboretum, is seen here with Nicky Hyslop who, when she ran our Orchard House Restaurant & Coffee Shop, represented the third generation of the Hyslop family to work on the "family farm".

Planning and preparation for the Shopping Centre on this site began around 2014/2015.

To promote the Estate and for the launch of The Vineyards, in 2016 we held a nationwide “Win a House” competition.

In a heartwarming moment winner Vivienne van den Berg, seen here with Glenn Hesse, her sister Judy Magnuand former director Mark Lynne, receives her keys.

As we expanded, The Wetlands and The Meadows were opened, the building of Meadow Ridge and Dairy Mews followed, and today, we see the transformation of The Pinelands beginning.

Our Care Centre & Jersey Cottages, initiated in 2017, have become vital components of the Estate.

Over the last ten years, St John’s has evolved into a sought-after lifestyle destination.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Glenn Hesse and his development team for their vision, Gareth Garvin for his landscaping expertise, and all the homeowners whose support has been integral to our journey.

Here’s to the next ten years and to all the exciting developments that are planned, starting in 2025!
